Glendon’s GREF Publishing House and the York University Bookstore Launch Latest Publication
Glendon’s French-language publishing house Éditions du GREF, in collaboration with the York University Bookstore, is about to launch its latest publication, Baudelaire & Co, a book by senior scholar of French Studies at York University, Melvin Zimmerman. Professor Zimmerman has written extensively on nineteenth-century literature and art, concentrating on Baudelairian studies.
Baudelaire & Co (intertexts on Pascal, Franklin, Rousseau, Laclos, Stendhal, Poe, Marx and others) is not only a literary study in intertextuality, but a pluridisciplinary survey of the modernist poet-critic’s world view. As such, it will speak to a variety of readerships, including anthropology, psychology, sociology, economics, the history of ideas, art history, comparative literature, aesthetics, philosophy, theology and erotology. In a postface, a paper on Jeanne Duval and La Belle Dorothée, racism, exoticism, misogyny and post-colonial issues are touched upon.
Baudelaire & Co will be launched on Tuesday March 2, 2010 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. in the Founders College Senior Common Room 305, on York University’s Keele Campus.
Attendance is free and everyone is warmly invited. Refreshments will be served.
Reservations are requested by sending an RSVP by Friday February 26th to Michael Legris, the York University Bookstore, by e-mail at firstname.lastname@example.org or by phone at 416.736.2100, extension 22078.
